Environmental protection is essential to preserving our beautiful island of Aruba. At Divi & Tamarijn Aruba, we take pride in leading with eco-friendly practices and community engagement. Our ongoing commitment to sustainability is recognized through our EarthCheck Certification, earned annually through rigorous external audits.
Our Sustainability Practices
WATER CONSERVATION
We minimize water consumption by actively monitoring usage across our facilities and implementing corrective measures to prevent unnecessary losses. For example, we use digital monitors that alert us in the event of leaks, allowing us to take prompt action. Additionally, our landscaping combines native Aruban species with drought-resistant Arizona plants reducing the need for irrigation. We also make use of gray water for irrigation purposes.
STAFF EDUCATION
Our team members participate in workshops and seminars conducted by the environmental committee, local government agencies, and non-governmental environmental organizations to stay up to date on the latest sustainable best practices.
ENERGY MANAGEMENT
By far, the largest consumers of electricity are the air conditioning (AC) units. To address this, we prioritize the use of energy-efficient technologies such as VRF systems and inverter compressors. Our AC units also operate with ozone-friendly refrigerants. As part of our energy-conscious approach, we have installed timers on electrical equipment, replaced all lighting with energy-efficient LEDs, and continuously monitor our energy usage. At Divi & Tamarijn, we also harness solar energy to generate green electricity and produce hot water.
CONTROL OF HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
The suitability and material safety of all products are carefully assessed prior to purchase. We ensure that our staff are fully trained in the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals – safety first. Additionally, we prioritize the procurement of environmentally friendly chemicals from reputable suppliers.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
We promote and sell local tours and attractions, giving special recognition to vendors that implement green practices. We also invite local craft vendors to Divi & Tamarijn Aruba at least once a week to display and sell their handmade items. Additionally, we proudly manage the Divi Impact Foundation, where guest donations support community well-being initiatives, such as providing meals for school children with limited resources.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Divi & Tamarijn Aruba has eliminated the use of plastic straws and other single-use paper and plastic products across the properties to help protect Aruba's marine life and wildlife. Bottle usage has been reduced by 60% through the implementation of Bag-in-Box (BiB) systems. Additionally, we have a reusable eco-cup program in place, and guests receive a reusable bottle at check-in to refill at the many water dispensers located throughout the property. Our high-quality WEB tap water is produced through a desalination process, making it safe, clean, and pleasant tasting, reducing the need for single-use bottled water.
Divi & Tamarijn Aruba is proud to partner with EarthCheck, the world’s leading certification and benchmarking organization for sustainable tourism. Through this collaboration, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact, supporting our local community, and continuously improving our operations to meet the highest international standards of sustainability. This partnership reflects our dedication to protecting Aruba’s natural beauty for future generations.
No Straw Initiative
To do our part in reducing plastic pollution, which constitutes 90% of all trash floating in our oceans and with straws ranking among the top 10 contributors, Divi & Tamarijn Aruba has eliminated the use of plastic straws and other paper goods.
