Donkey Sanctuary In Aruba

July 03, 2026 Kathy P.

During our recent trip to the Divi and Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusives, we rented a car and took a drive to the Donkey Sanctuary—and it ended up being one of our favorite experiences on the island.

The Donkey Sanctuary Aruba is a non-profit, volunteer-run rescue founded in 1997 to protect Aruba’s donkeys from abandonment and road dangers. The volunteers are incredibly dedicated, focusing on caring for donkeys that are neglected, sick, or injured, while also preserving an important part of the island’s heritage.

Today, the sanctuary provides food, medical care, shelter, and a safe home for more than 130 donkeys who were once left to fend for themselves around the island.

What to expect

  • Super friendly donkeys you can pet, feed, and even hug (bring apples or carrots—they go crazy for them!)
  • Free admission, though donations are strongly encouraged and truly appreciated
  • A cozy visitor center with a small souvenir shop and shaded areas to relax
  • Free parking and a laid-back, educational experience that’s perfect for families and animal lovers
  • Expect to spend about an hour of time at this excursion

Hours & visiting info

  • Open daily from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (closed January 1)
  • Located in Bringamosa, Aruba—just a short ride south of the main hotel and tourist areas (accessible by both taxi or rental car)

If you’re looking for something meaningful, fun, and a little different from the beach, this is absolutely worth the drive.
